Before starting out on our journey, I had to go to the Technology Services Department in the MTC. My computer, my baby was ‘sick’. Here are the doctors working on it. Couldn’t figure out what was wrong. The Elder who was at the MTC who used to work for The Geek Squad at Best Buy, which is where we bought our computer (laptop) was not available. I was really worried, BUT, just as I gave up hope, guess who walked in? Yep, the Geek Squad guy. He not only fixed my baby, but he told me exactly what was wrong, and how to keep her healthy. Ahh, yes, prayers are answered.
We left at 10:00 (Utah time) and started out on Route 6 which extends from Provo, Utah and connects to Hwy 70. The scenary on Route 6 was beautiful. Yes, it was very deserty (is that a word?), but we enjoyed the colors and the shape and sizes of the cliffs and rocks. We are used to the green of California and the desert of Nevada. We took a picture of our first glimpse of the Colorado Rockies. Beautiful!!! We have been in Colorado Springs before and it is very beautiful and green, so we are thinking that we will start to see some greenery tomorrow as we start on our way to see Roy’s brother.
Our first stop was to get gas in Green River, Utah. It cost $4.01 a gallon! Highway robbery, but not much we can do about it.
Yep, Roy puts gas in MY car – always
We finally got to our destination of Grand Junction, Colorado. We wanted to only travel about four hours today so that we could enjoy a nice dinner and rest from all of the work we did at the MTC. As I have said, it was beyond description how very much we enjoyed the spirit and feeling while being there, but there is no rest for weary. So, therefore, we are now in a very nice Holiday Inn Hotel
and just kicking back and enjoying the peace and uninterrupted rest time.
When we arrive in Grand Junction about 3:00, we thought it was time for some lunch so we stopped at a Wendys. Roy says I am the only person he knows who takes a picture of someone entering Wendys . . . yeah, well, he’s right, but he’ll thank me for it. I think . . .). You will notice that the picture of Holiday Inn does not have Roy in it . . .
While we were sitting at Wendy’s eating, a man (I was going to say elderly, but he’s only a year older than Roy) came to our table and said he saw our badges. He told us that he is the Stake President for that area. His name is President Summers. He is one of two Stake Presidents in Grand Junction. A little definition help here: In our church our congregations are called Wards. A group of Wards in a particular area, are called a Stake. For example, in the Sacramento area, we have approximately 14 Stakes. (If someone has a closer count – please comment). A group of Stakes are called a Region. Back to President Summers, he and his family moved here in 1968 and his profession was an attorney. He and his wife raised six children. About four years ago he got Parkinson's disease and is still going strong. Not able to work any longer, but he is still serving and very active in the church. It was nice to talk with him. We appreciate those times. He is an example of pushing forward even when you’re down.
Since Roy’s brother, Jerry, is planning a great meal for us tomorrow night for our Anniversary, we stopped and got yogurt to celebrate for today. Yum, it was good! Kind of like Spoons Yogurt in Roseville. A little like home.
