Gosh, I so feel so remiss as a Mom and Grandma.  It has been so busy with Elder Boehrer’s hip, all the work at the office and yep, taking time for myself, that I totally neglected to put a ‘tribute’ to Bryan and Joshua on my blog for their birthdays.  Oh, we talked with both of them on Wednesday, May 29th, but I always like to include my family on the blog too.  Bryan has four of our perfect grandchildren – Hailey, Sam, Cali and Jackson.  They are adorable.  Of course I’m a proud grandma.  We are so proud of Josh and his accomplishments.  He is the best grandson and is so kind as a big cousin.  Thanks for you do Bryan and Josh.

A Spa Day

On Thursday, we had nice break from all of the work we have to take care of at the mission office, Sister Jones and Sister Richards took me out for my birthday.  We called it a “Spa Day”.  It started out with getting a pedicure.  It felt so good to just sit back and get my feet rubbed. 

         

After that we went to the Cheesecake Factory and had the best lunch, including Key Lime Pie (we share a piece)

 

We topped it off with an iMax 3D movie – Star Trek which was great!!!!!

AN UPDATE:  Elder Boehrer is coming home to morrow.  He had blood trapped in his muscle, which was causing all of the pain.  He is still on pain medication, but not only can he come home tomorrow, but he should be doing well by the middle of next week.  I am so grateful for blessings.  We have much work to do and Elder Boehrer is well aware of that.  He will be fine.

David’s Birthday

Today is our son David’s Birthday. 

We enjoy David and his family so much.  We can’t wait to see them again.  I had to add this picture of he and his family on one of their many trips to Disneyland.  Happy times.  David is a lawyer in Henderson, Nevada.  In fact, he owns his own business.  We are very proud of his accomplishments.  Can’t wait to see all of our children on the 4th of July!!!!

Well on Wednesday Elder Boehrer got a cortisone shot in his hip.  It has been hurting lately and in the past the shots have helped a bunch.  He will still have to have a hip operation, but this will buy us time.

Tonight the area where he got the shot started hurting pretty badly, in fact so badly that we went to the emergency room.  He was given some powerful pain medication which helped immediately.  He will have to stay the night until he can be evaluated. He had a blessing which gave us much comfort.

This picture is for my beautiful granddaughter Lexy.  Elders Cragun and Holmes, President Richards Assistants, wanted Lexy to know how ‘cool’ glasses are.  They saw the picture of Lexy with her new glasses so they wanted their picture in the blog too.  Yep, see what you started Lexy???  Love you lots.

A “Mission Miracle”

Today we had what we call a “Mission Miracle” NOTE: A mission miracle is when something happens that you feel is a miracle.  It doesn’t always have to do with you, it can involve non-members, inactives, members, anyone that you come in contact with.  We have a missionary coming to our mission in July who is from a highly dysfunctional family that includes physical and verbal abuse.  He joined the church in 2011.  Since he decided to serve a mission the small branch he lives in is trying to earn money to support him while he is out in the mission field.  They have had garage sales, barbeques, service projects, etc. to get donations for this young man to serve.  Because he will need a bike for the mission, his Bishop called today how much they would need to raise to get him one.  Long story short, just this morning Elder Jones received an email from the parents of one of our missionaries stating that when their son comes home next month, they wanted to donate his bike to the mission. The Lord’s work gets done.  This young man will have a great bike and the ward will not have to pay for it.  A Mission Miracle.

Today we had a group of missionaries come into the office to put together bikes for the incoming missionaries.  They are always so willing to help and are so fun to be with.  We are their mission parents and we love it.  It is a privilege we surely enjoy.

VISA Waiters

 

Today we found out that there are ninety VISA waiters NOTE: A Visa Waiter is a missionary who is assigned to another country and whose visa has not come through yet.  Therefore, they are ‘waiting for their visas’.   President Richards told Salt Lake )NOTE: Salt Lake City is the headquarters of the church) that our mission would be able to handle four Visa Waiters.  So, we are getting three Spanish speaking missionaries – 1 Sister and two Elders and 1 Portuguese speaking Elder.  We got eight more missionaries coming.  We are up to thirty-two in June, thirty-four in July and at this point, twenty-five in August.  We also have a missionary from Taiwan coming in who speaks Mandarin Chinese.  He will be arriving in November. 

I spoke with one of our replacements, Sister Pascoe.  She is a little nervous about learning iMOS.  NOTE:  iMOS is a church program widely used for storing and keeping data about the incoming and outgoing missionaries.  Sister Pascoe will do just fine.  I am excited to meet her and Elder Pascoe.  Jennifer just called and reminded us that we have only about two more weeks.  We are well aware.

Memorial Day

So proud of our service men.   Without their sacrifice, we would not have all of the freedoms we enjoy today.   Michael, our oldest son, honors them by attending the Memorial Day services in the City of Citrus Heights.  He brings his daughters (above) every year and explains to them the sacrifices made for their freedom.  Elder Boehrer, his Dad and my Dad, served in the armed forces.  Michael honors them every year. Elder Boehrer and I plan on going to Milton Boehrer’s gravesite in the San Bruno National Cemetery.  He passed away when Elder Boehrer was just 21 years old.  Elder Boehrer and his brother Jerry always honor his memory and his service in WW II.

Well, it’s getting humid here with heat on the way, but this is what most of our grandchildren are doing.  Nothing better than playing in the pool during the summer time.  The next best thing is watching our grandchildren play.  We do love our mission, but we will be coming home soon.

My grandchildren are growing way too fast.  I remember when Tucker, Jennifer’s oldest, was just a little guy and now he’s graduated from Pre-School.  Oh My.  So glad I am a grandma ‘cause I have awesome grandchildren.

[Elder Boehrer]  The time is moving so quick and there is still so much to do. I wonder sometimes why time seems to move so slow and other times it moves so fast. The only apartment left to get for the next transfer is one for the Baltimore Elders.

Today we went to the Inner Harbor Ward which was the first ward we attended when we arrived in the mission. I think we made more friends in that ward in the few months we were there than we did in the Ellicott City Ward where we spent most of our mission Inner Harbor has some of the most humble members.  They leave a lot of memories.

This evening Sister Boehrer and I went to the President’s home to celebrate Mother’s Day because Sister Richards was out of town on Mother’s Day and we were unable to celebrate with her. We had New York steak, baked potato, vegetable,  salad and finished up with Keyline Pie and chocolate cake.  Stuffed!!!

Green is Back!

We are so excited to see the green back in Maryland. It has been too long with this cold, bare tree stuff. Love it – again, minus the humidity.

How would you like to have to mow this grass   It is like this all over Maryland.  Beautiful to look at, but a lot of work.  Our son, Michael, would croak.  He does not like yard work

I love the homes in Maryland.  They have such character.

We are getting packed.  Rather than wait until the last minute, we want to keep going.  With transfers coming in a week, we have to stay on top of every thing.

We are trying out those plastic things that you suck the air out of.  They are supposed to save a lot of room when packing.  We’ll see.
