Family Update: Well, we have a star hitter in our family. Lexy Boehrer has been hitting home runs in her baseball team. Her father tells us that when she steps up to bat, everyone in the outfield moves back and gets ready. Go Lexy!! We also found out today that our oldest granddaughter, Chelsey, is getting great marks on her tests at school. Her plan is to finish up this school year as a medical assistant then she would like to continue on and become a nurse and then an RN. Wow, we know Chelsey can do whatever she sets her mind to. Our grandson Jacob is quite the catcher on his baseball team. He knows how to keep the other team on their toes and throws that ball with lightening speed. Our niece, Laura, has been accepted into the Master’s Program in South Carolina. She wants to go into family counseling. Since Laura just got married, in January, and lives in Murrieta, CA, this will be a big move for her and her husband, Kevin. She is a smart young lady. Also, our niece, Julie, will graduate from Masters Program in June. Julie has already written a couple of children’s books and her first one has been published. We are so very proud of our family. Good job to all of you! Still waiting for Bryan’s son to be born. He is due the 1st of May, but he seems to want to come join us sooner. We’ll keep you updated on that. Well, just had to brag a little. . .
Today we drove through the farm state of Kansas. The scenery consisted of rows and acres of farmland. As we drove down this country road, I had to stop and take a picture of this little farm house.
It reminded me of when I was about three years old, my Mom took me to see my cousins on a peach farm in Modesto, CA. I will never forget how fun that was and how good those peaches tasted right off the peach tree. I have loved the feeling of being on a farm and especially, I have loved peaches ever since that experience. Yep, corn and peaches are my favorite summer food. I always wanted to raise our family on a farm, but I knew that the crops wouldn’t stand a chance. I certainly didn’t inherit my Mom’s ability to plant anything and have it grow perfectly. And, Roy is a meat man, so, we ended up not on a farm, but in raising our family in the central valley of California. The best of both worlds.
As were traveling through Kansas, thinking we were obeying the laws of the road, Roy looked in the rear view mirror and saw a Highway Patrolman behind us. OH NO! I had visions of a huge ticket for something – not sure what. Anyway, the patrolman came up to our window and told us that we needed to use our blinkers when we changed lanes. He going to write us a warning ticket – WHEW! Okay, I like Kansas again.
Those windmills are massive! I don’t think the picture does them justice.
I tried to take some pictures of Kansas to show you the ‘flavor’ of this pretty farm town. I have included a picture of my long suffering (when it comes to my many pictures), super husband; our hotel (of course);
where we ate dinner;
and where we ate lunch
(yep, we’re getting tired of fast food, but it’s simple and quick). As we were eating dinner we visited with the waitress and grilled her on what it’s like to be in a tornado state. And, of course, she asked us what it was like to be in an earthquake state. We shared stories and even though she looked at our badges, she didn’t ask any questions about what they stood for :)
It’s been a great travel day.
