9th MTC Day

Training:

Today was our second day of office training.   Nine hours with two fifteen minute breaks and an hour and a half for lunch.  We learned so much.  It went by so fast, but I will tell you we are very tired Sleepy smile.  Learning a new program at our age can be daunting, but we both like to keep our brains active and that is what we have done these past two days.  Two more days of training . . .

Tonight we attended a Fireside which was presided over by Elder Larry Gibbons of the Quorum of the Seventy.  He was an interesting speaker.  He spoke on missionary activation.  And, guess what his message was?  Exactly what Bishop Haddock has been asking our ward to do since he was sustained – “Missionary Work Is Centered In The Ward”.  We can be missionaries and work hard, but without the help of the ward members, we are truly hindered.  Elder Gibbons also told us that missionary work is not hard, not complicated and we need to lighten up!

He spoke of the sons of Mosiah in Mosiah 28:3 “Now they were desirous that salvation should be declared to every creature, for they could not bear that any human soul should perish; yay, even the very thoughts that any soul should endure endless torment did cause them to quake and tremble.” When you are surrounded by such powerful speakers and the spirit is so strong, it is not hard to understand how the sons of Mosiah felt.  You want all to understand the message you are trying to convey.  Sharing the gospel is our way of showing love.  In John 13:35 is states “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Elder Gibbons called three young missionaries out of the audience and had them read and role play.  I was very proud of how well those young men handled themselves.  They said the right answers and the one who did the role playing was perfect.  It is unbelievable to see approximately 4,000  young men and women in suits and dresses in one room and how dedicated and happy they are.  I am in awe of them.

On to another subject.  We think we have the route planned for our trip back east to Maryland.  We are going to take Hwy 70.  It starts in Cove Fort, Utah and goes straight to Baltimore.  We will be traveling through TEN, yes, TEN states.  We are excited!  I am going to try and get a picture of each of the signs showing which states we are in.  Prepare yourselves, there will be plenty of pictures – can’t have too many Rolling on the floor laughing.

Tonight I have a picture of the exercise room here on our floor.  Yep, I have used it, but not as much as I should have.  I have even included a picture of the scale – which I have not used, nor do I plan to.  I mean, I don’t want to have to stop eating all of those wonderful desserts they have here at breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I plan on living in my ignorant bliss until Friday when we leave.

There are two treadmills and two bikes.  And downstairs they have a ton of exercise equipment.  I don’t see many Senior Missionaries using them . . . we like to walk, at least that’s our excuse!
