Dinner Out

Tonight as we are driving over to the Richardson’s home for dinner Jennifer called to ask what we were doing.  Just as she said “Geez Mom, it seems like you and Dad go out to dinner all the time”, I said we were going out to dinner AGAIN.  Last night we went to dinner at the President’s home and met his older brother Dan and his wife, who are on their way to starting their mission in New Hampshire.  They are going on a proselyting mission.  More and more senior missionaries are leaving home, family and comfort to come out and serve. 

 

The dinner at the Richardson’s was great.  The Clasens, Jones, Lindseys, us and Richardsons had a great time.  They even gave each of the Elders some ties that a wealthy doctor’s wife had given Elder Richardson and asked him to give them away to any missionaries he felt would want them.  Gosh, those ties cost from $100 to $250.  Welp, you can bet believe Elder Boehrer never spent that kind of money on a tie.  It was a nice, unexpected gift

All Safe and Now Re-Arranging

Just want all to know how very much we appreciated your prayers and calls of support.  We made it through the storm.  Even our electricity held out and didn’t go out on us.  We are so, so grateful.  Today we were able to go into the office and to answer the phones and answer questions from worried parents and to send out emails so all the missionary parents could be informed of the outcome.  We are all safe.  The missionaries out in Cumberland, the western part of Maryland, had to stay in because they were snowed in, but other than that, we are getting back to normal.  The missionaries went out and helped people who were in need.  It was a day of service. 

Hey, the work in the Mission Office is not all work and service, it’s also FUN    Elder Jones got a new monitor – it’s HUGE and a new printer.  Because he is very computer savvy, he set up everything himself and we, especially Elder Boehrer had a great time helping him.  Yep, missions are fun and you grow to love the people you serve with.

The Storm

This was the view from the Mission Office window today.

Sandy came in full swing today and tonight.  Right now, 8:00 the wind is howling and the rain is pouring down.  No one is on the road unless they have to be.  It is so dangerous out there.  So far we still have power – keep your fingers crossed.  I hope we don’t flood.  The water is rising, but we still have not filled the ditch behind our apartment complex.  Kinda scarey.  We hope we make it through the night without too much trouble.
