The Beautiful Nauvoo Temple

We arrived in Nauvoo around 1:00 today.  We are staying with Brett Allen who is the son of long time friends of ours, Janet and Richard Allen.  Brett and his family are living in a 100 year old home that is fantastic. The wood work is beautiful.  We have our own room with a king size bed and Brett is very familiar with

Nauvoo and is being the perfect tour guide. WoW!  Nauvoo is unbelievable.  We are so happy we took the time to come here and learn even more about Church History.

Inside the John Taylor Home.  This is a picture of the original horse that belonged to John Taylor’s son.  When they moved into this home, Brother Taylor’s son was crying because he had to leave his horse behind.  So, John went out in the dead of night and crossed the frozen Mississippi to retrieve the horse for his son.  He had to go under the cover of darkness so as not to be seen by the mob.

In the evening the senior couples did a skit for us – awesome!!!

The Vocal Majority – they are from Brigham Young University and have been on television.  They were great – sang without any music, just what they did by making the sounds themselves.

Happy Father’s Day and Taylor’s Birthday

Taylor Boehrer, Michael’s fourth daughter.  Taylor is six years old today and will be a first grader next school year.  She is getting so grown up and also, she is a great dancer.  Can’t wait to watch her!!!  Love you Taylor.

 

I have to say how very much I love my husband.  He is the best Dad and grandpa.  His children still come to him for advice and just to talk.  They love and respect him.  What more could you ask for.  My own Dad was pretty great also. He passed away ten years ago this year and he is missed.  I feel so blessed to have them both in my life.

 

KIRTLAND:

NOTE: Willard Richards (June 24, 1804 – March 11, 1854) was an early leader in the the LDS Church and served as Second Counselor to church President Brigham Young from 1847 until his death.  Willard Woodruff was also the great-great-great grandfather of our Mission President, Mark L. Richards. 

When we had to mail home some clothes before we left the mission, we inadvertently mailed ALL of our church clothes!  Thus, we were unable to attend one of the wards today – disappointing.

These two tour buses filled with tourists also had the same idea of touring Kirtland . . .

Our tour guide was two senior couples – they have served three missions, all in historic church sites.

Many revelations were received at this table inside the N. K. Whitney store.

This senior missionary was our tour guide for the Issac Morley Farm.  She had only been out three weeks and did an awesome job.

We finished up our tour at the Kirtland Temple, which is owned by the Restored LDS Church.

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I enjoy graveyards, especially old ones.  This one had many Mormons buried here from the 1800s.  Interesting.

Tomorrow we are on our way to Nauvoo, Illinois and then home!
